I heard about David Robinson of Birch Studio back in 2003 while working on a CVG project. It wasn't until later that I actually had the opportunity to meet David and his wife and business partner Jenny. They make a delightful and powerful team.
Birch Studio was founded in 1994 as a marketing and design firm specializing in creating the "face" of the client's organization. The ultimate goal is to ensure their clients success through the creation of marketing collateral, including web site design. Marketing collateral supports the "Get, Grow, and Hold" strategy that I talk about in many of my presentations to entrepreneurs. Birch gives their clients the tools to get or attract new clients, grow their clients through education, and hold or retain their client base through a variety of comprehensive and interwoven strategies.
David and Jenny have brought together an impressive team of creative people - 2 designers and 1 programmer. The team works very closely with clients to develop just the right face that presents the right information.
The Birch Studio process is one that can be of use with a start up or Fortune 500 organization. The main client base has evolved to be significantly organizations that market and sell to the Fortune 500 crowd. With over 10 years under their belt, clients now come by of word of mouth - very little advertising is done outside the realm of face to face networking.
When asked to describe the company, Jenny said, "We are a nation of brilliant identities, who come together collaboratively to create success for our clients."
Looking back on the early days of starting the company, David indicated that effective communication was key to building the company - from managing initial expectations to the ability of the final product to carry the client's message. I asked what drives the company and David said, "It's the creative ideas - there are no limits to creativity." Jenny and David recently added another person to their family, son Ion. Ion is about 6 months old now and from what I understand is already showing that creative gene.
David and Jenny both agree that the best thing about being an entrepreneur is the ability to "steer our own ship, the freedom, the unlimited potential."
